With a background rich in literature and learning, Lizabeth Sprague has brought her talents to Butler CC, as a research and instruction librarian for Butler of Andover.
“My background includes a small collection of degrees: a bachelor’s in English literature and in film studies, both from KU, a master’s in teaching from WSU, and a master’s in library science from Emporia,” Sprague said. “I liked the idea of being at a smaller college. I wanted to help at the academic level without losing the connection with students and staff. I could also tell that the Butler library and its librarians were a team that I wanted to be a part of.”
Sprague will focus on online instruction, working on increasing student engagement and creating resources for students that are primary online.
“I’ve already had a few faculty jump on board and let me create some resources for them,” Sprague saie. “It’s been fun getting to learn different subjects and be creative in new ways.”
Although she has loved working in the online environment, Sprauge wants to work to connect with students, even those she will never meet in person.
“I am eager to collaborate and create materials with [online students], so I hope to find ways to connect beyond email,” she said.
Sprague has always loved talking about books and movies with students; as a child she dreamed of working in the creative world.
“I have always been a big fan of classic films and film history, so I wanted to be a film archivist or the next Robert Osborne,” she said.
“If you ask my friends or family, every book seems to be my favorite,” Sprague said. “I am very much a mood reader, so it just depends on the day. Today, I am reading Kristen Hannah’s The Women, and it has quickly transfixed me.”
Sprague is excited to continue her learning adventure, and plans to attend library conferences, as well as begin Spanish classes on campus.
“Stop by the Andover campus to talk about books or movies!” she said.
