The Butler Community College Grizzlies flexed their offensive and defensive muscles in a dominant doubleheader sweep over Seward County Community College, winning 10-1 in the opener and 11-6 in the second game.
In the first game, the Grizzlies made a statement early, holding Seward County to just three hits while exploding for 10 runs on eight hits. The sophomore pitcher Chloe Odle was lights out, striking out 12 in six innings and allowing only one run before sophomore pitcher Addy Ewing closed out the game in the seventh.
Butler’s offense broke the game open in the fifth, plating six runs, highlighted by a two-run home run from Kylie Forney. On the other side, Seward County struggled defensively, committing five errors, so this was a real challenge for them.
The second game saw more fireworks, with Butler racking up 14 hits and pushing across 11 runs. Sophomore infielder Chloe Cardona led the charge with three hits and three RBIs, while others added multiple hits and runs scored.
Seward County fought trying to stay in the game, led by Alyssa Morgan’s three-hit, four-RBI performance, including a home run. Nonetheless, Butler’s amazing offense proved they were superior, with a key four-run fourth inning providing a comfortable lead.
With the sweep, Butler improves to 9-1 on the season and 3-1 in conference play, while Seward County falls to 7-13 (3-5). Butler will look maintain these outstanding performances in their next series, while Seward aims to bounce back and tighten their up defense. As the season progresses, both teams will look to refine their play and make a push in the conference standings.
The Grizzlies will face Colby CC at home on Wednesday, March 12, in a doubleheader. The first game will start at 1 p.m. and the second to follow at then 3 p.m.
