In their season opener at BG Products Stadium, the Butler Grizzlies battled Seminole State Raiders to a 1-1 draw in a match that showcased both teams' determination and grit.

The game began with Seminole State applying early pressure, creating several opportunities and earning numerous free kicks. Aaliyaiah Durden, a freshman central midfielder, capitalized on this pressure, scoring the first goal in the 12th minute to give Seminole State a 1-0 lead.

The Grizzlies struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, managing only a few shots. One notable attempt came from Tyesha Nelson, freshman midfielder, whose effort went wide of the goal. Seminole State’s goalkeeper, Carolina Mobley, made several key saves to keep Butler from scoring. The first half concluded with Seminole State holding a 1-0 lead, though they were dealt a setback with a yellow card just before the break.

In the second half, Butler emerged with renewed energy and determination. The Grizzlies created numerous opportunities, putting constant pressure on Seminole State’s defense. Despite their efforts and several corner kicks, Mobley continued to thwart Butler’s attempts with crucial saves.

As the match neared its end, Seminole State’s lead appeared secure. However, Butler’s persistence paid off in the closing minutes. London Ingram, a freshman forward, scored the equalizer with an assist from Sakiko Manabe, a sophomore midfielder, levelling the score at 1-1.

Butler’s late goal demonstrated their resilience and determination, earning them a well-deserved point despite being behind for most of the game. The Grizzlies’ ability to perform under pressure and create scoring opportunities when it mattered most highlighted their competitive spirit.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, marking a hard-fought start to the season for both teams. Both Butler and Seminole State will look to build on this performance as they prepare for future challenges.

The Butler Grizzlies will travel to Coffeyville to take on the Ravens tomorrow  at the Veterans Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m.
