In a commanding performance at home on Wednesday, Sept. 18, Butler CC swept Garden City CC on three sets (25-22, 25-21 and 25-19).

The Grizzlies demonstrated dominance on both offense and defense, from the opening serve, the fans knew it was going to be a battle. The Grizzlies' sophomore outside hitter Gretta Stover was second on the team in kills that night with nine, and she had an amazing game.

The second set was also very competitive with Garden City fighting to finally win a set, making the score 1-1, but sophomore outside hitter Avery DeLong had other plans as she continued her marvelous season, performing at a high level and leading the team with 10 kills.

The Grizzlies had a balanced attack, and amazing blocking was important to their success. Several players contributed to the statement performance against conference opponents, Garden City.

The third was not as close, ending at 25-19. Garden City seemed demoralized as they fought very hard in the previous sets but were unable to win. The Grizzlies were just too much for them tonight.

Overall, in the game the Grizzlies made several mistakes that could have been fatal, the serves were not perfect. However, Garden City did not capitalize on these mistakes and made more mistakes themselves.

After the games ended, the Grizzlies had a meet and greet with people in attendance, which was a great occasion to bond with people cheering them on week in and week out.

Butler's next home game will be opposing Missouri State University on Friday, Sept. 27 at the Power Plant at 12 p.m. A win is essential to get their overall record to .500.
