Minecraft brings blocks to life

The Minecraft movie was released on April 4, Friday. The film is based on a video game released in 2011, in which creators can use their imagination to build whatever they choose.

The movie stars actors like Jack Black, who played in Kung Fu Panda, and Jason Momoa known as Aquaman, working together in the recent film. The film starts with Steve (Black) trying to retrieve a command block to protect the Minecraft world from being destroyed. This block is also needed to send the people back to the real world, which creates the plot set for the rest of the movie.

Throughout the movie, there are similarities to the game like characters, battle scenes and weapons taking place. The characters from the real world learn how to navigate through the imaginary world, so they gain fighting and building skills to protect themselves.

The movie is meant for kids but features lots of funny moments for people of all ages to enjoy, especially for those who have played the game. The film has a bunch of great moments like bursting out singing, and dancing their way through serious situations like zombie killing and fighting the piglins, which keep the viewers entertained, as well as jokes slipped in every once in a while.

I do not play Minecraft and didn’t know anything about the characters in the game, so going into watching the film was interesting as I thought I would be left confused. The director Jarad Hess did a good job explaining the characters and game throughout the film for those who aren’t as familiar with it. When a new character would be introduced, Steve would explain who they are and how their role impacts their journey

After watching weapons being built and new connections form, I loved the movie! It sent messages such as teamwork is the dream work and to always have each other's back, but also to let your creativity show and not be afraid to hide it like building weapons out of tater tots. In the movie, the crew did not know each other except two people as they are related.

I would 100% watch this movie again if it came out on a streaming channel! It was cool seeing the game be in real life and watching the battle and journey they went through together was very nice. I also learned a couple of things from the game that I didn't know beforehand. I'm hoping for part two of the film since a little teaser slipped after the credits!
