Open your eyes wide because these years Children's Theatre is nothing like the previous years. With the retirement of the previous director Bob Peterson, the theatre department students have the great pleasure to introduce “A Year with Frog and Toad, The Musical” written by Arnold Lobel, an American author and illustrator.

“The Frog and The Toad’ is a series of children’s books published between 1970 and 1979. The stories put in the scene “the frog” and “the toad”, two friends with different characters and personalities growing their friendship through different situations. This piece teaches the morality of children as it helps them to understand the importance of solidarity and other differences acceptance. It is a timely transcendent piece which is “a Tony Award-winning musical,” according to Caden Runnalls, the technical theatre director/ manager of Butler CC.

According to Leslie Coates, the theatre faculty director, this year's performance was "designed for children and not performed by children.” This makes a huge difference because it is no longer named Children's Theatre but theatre for a new audience.

“Children are the most honest audience you will ever have”, Runnalls said. “Theatre is something that children don’t get to experience much anymore, so getting them in a new environment that might plant the seed of theatrical passion later in life is one of the most gratifying things we do.”

Nothing like “No Exit” which was a small performance with no musical note, this production is “collaborating between vocal music, instrumental and theater with some crossover with 3-D art” from the perspective of Runnalls.

Next, there will be a faculty recital on Thursday, March 6. To reserve tickets, visit the Box Office.
