Butler’s Arts, Digital Media and Communications (ADMC) Department and the Student Government Association (SGA) hosted the annual Halloween Party on Thursday, Oct. 30.
Everyone was welcomed by Valerie Haring, ADMC dean, and invited to feel at home during the holiday celebrations. Beginning with tables full of food and holiday themed treats, it did not take long for the conversation to build to action with these energetic arts students.
The 700 building was a gentle swirl of activity from one side to the other throughout the evening. A “murder mystery” game went through a few different rounds to discover “who did it”, with groups reading their parts. Backstage, a wagon was filled with pumpkins that soon were carved into unique jack-o-lanterns. Two winners were later selected by fine arts professors Rachel Curtis and Kevin Kelly for technical skills and uniqueness.
Many students and staff members wore costumes ranging from the subtle home-made style to professional designs with top notch makeup during the night. Later, they struck a pose on stage and were voted on by a student-led panel.
Overall, best was “The Peacekeeper”, “Hungry Caterpillar” and “Lollipop Chainsaw Girl” both brought cuteness. The group category nearly went to a professor duo; Trisha Coats impersonating Kevin Kelly flawlessly, but “Mean Girls” came away winners of the prize bag in the end.
Many more people arrived for the finale of the night, a screening of ‘Donkiller’.
A movie written, directed, and produced entirely by students at BCC, it rounded out the holiday experience with laughter, mystery and suspense, while providing funds for the Delta Psi Omega theater students who are excited to go on the NYC Vocal Tour or Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival to attend workshops to improve skills with the funds from this fun night.
