Butler Baseball Picks Up Eighth Straight Victory After Win at Neosho

CHANUTE, Kan. – The Butler Grizzlies won their eighth straight game after non-conference nine-inning win at Neosho on Tuesday.

Neosho got on the board first in the bottom half of the first inning after a 2 RBI double to take a 2-0 lead. Butler would respond by scoring a run in the top half of the third after a Jackson Ellison sacrifice fly scored Danny Wideman. The Grizzlies tied the game in the fourth after Kaleb Nye's RBI single scored Logan Hicks.

The Grizzlies took the lead in the top half of the seventh after Hicks' sacrifice fly scored Tanay Vyas and then Nye recorded his second RBI of the contest, bringing in Ellison to score Butler's fourth run of the game on an RBI single.

Neosho tied the game back up in the bottom half of the inning at four apiece after a 2 RBI single.

Butler again retook the lead in the top of the eighth, scoring three runs and another run in the top of the ninth with the Grizzlies holding an 8-4 lead. Hank Welu came into pitch for the Grizzlies in the bottom of the ninth and gave up zero hits and zero runs to seal the 8-4 victory.

Jackson Ellison and Logan Hicks led the Grizzlies with three hits apiece. Ellison went 3-4 with two runs and two RBIs, while Hicks went 3-3 with two runs, one RBI, and was walked once. Kaleb Nye finished 2-4 with two RBIs, and Danny Wideman and Tanay Vyas also finished with two hits.

Andrew Dechaine started on the mound for the Grizzlies and threw three innings and allowed two hits and two runs while striking out five batters. Cash Buchwitz (W, 1-0) earned the win for Butler. Buchwitz threw one inning and gave up two hits and two runs while striking out one batter.

Next up: The Grizzlies will be back in El Dorado on Thursday to face the Dodge City Conquistadors in a seven and nine inning doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
