The Butler Grizzlies continued their unbeaten run in the conference, beating the Seward County Saints 4-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at B.G. Products Veterans Sports Complex.Butler's early pressure finally was rewarded. Scoring opened in just the 8th minute when freshman forward London Ingram scored her 8th goal of the season, giving Butler the 1-0 lead. Still on top, the Grizzlies controlled the game and made several more attempts on goals, including a high shot by Ingram at the 12-minute mark.
The reward for Butler's constant pressure came once again in the 30-minute mark when freshman midfielder Tyesha Nelson found the back of the net from her first goal of the season, assisted by a pass from sophomore Sakiko Manabe. Butler took a 2-0 lead into halftime having held Seward County off all first half. It didn't stop the dominance by Butler, as just one minute into the second half, freshman Giselle Nash netted her first goal of the year off of the feet of freshman midfielder Hayde Flores to extend the lead to 3-0. The Grizzlies just kept pounding Seward County, shot after shot and corner kick after corner kick, making the visitors defend their goal.
The second half continued with most of the same dominance by Butler. Just a minute into the second half, Nash scored her first goal of the year off an assist from Hayde Flores to push Butler's lead to 3-0. The Grizzlies stayed aggressive against Seward County, taking several shots and corners that kept the visitors on their heels.
In the 62nd minute, Flores added another to Butler's total, assisted by freshman forward Anahyssa Nash as it became 4-0. Though solidly in control for Butler, Seward County was able to pull one back in the 69th minute as Meredith Rosas scored from an assist by Nicole Calderon to make it 4-1.
Still, the Butler defense held on until the end of the match, when goalkeepers Millie Robshaw-Charlsworth and Brooklin Lynch made critical saves to prevent further damage. The Grizzlies saw out the game in comfort to grab another big victory.
The Grizzlies will take on Hill College at the B.G. Products Veterans Sports Complex on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
