Grizzlies Drop Three-Game Series to New Mexico Junior College

HOBBS, N.M. – The Butler Grizzlies were swept by New Mexico Junior College over the weekend, falling in all three games at Ray Birmingham Field.

Game 1 (5 Inn.) – New Mexico 11, Butler 1

Butler dropped the series opener 11–1 in five innings. The Grizzlies managed four hits in 16 at-bats, with first baseman Tanay Vyas collecting two of them, including a double. Butler's lone run came on a Jarren Hay RBI groundout that scored Brady Todd.

New Mexico totaled eight hits in 19 at-bats and drew seven walks.

Cooper Annin (L, 0–1) made his third start of the season, throwing one inning and allowing two hits and four earned runs.

Game 2 (9 Inn.) – New Mexico 9, Butler 5

The Grizzlies fell 9–5 in Saturday's nine-inning contest. Butler again recorded four hits, this time in 29 at-bats. Yusei Uzawa and Kaden Gomez-Gordon each tallied two hits, with Uzawa driving in one run and Gomez-Gordon knocking in four.

Trailing 9–2 entering the eighth, Butler rallied for three runs but was unable to push across any more in the ninth.

Shane Holman (L, 1–1) made his third start of the season, allowing 11 hits, seven earned runs, and striking out three in 3.1 innings.

Brody Curran made his season debut, delivering 2.1 scoreless innings while allowing two hits, walking three, and striking out one. Royce Perkins and Luke Schmitt also pitched effectively, combining to face eight batters and surrender just one hit.

Game 3 (7 Inn.) – New Mexico 12, Butler 4

New Mexico completed the sweep with a 12–4 win in seven innings. Butler again finished with four hits. Tanay Vyas had a standout performance, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs, a double, and a home run.

Connor Robinson (L, 0–1) started for Butler, throwing two innings and allowing four hits, five earned runs, four walks, and one strikeout.

Next up: The Grizzlies return home this weekend for their 2026 season debut at McDonald Stadium in El Dorado, hosting Des Moines Area Community College on Friday and Saturday. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
