softball's consecutive title

The #16 ranked Butler Community College softball team dominated on Saturday , April 26 exploding for 14 runs in just three innings to dismantle Pratt Community College 14–2 in a five-inning run-rule victory at Angood Field.

Improving to 38–6 overall and 27–5 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play, the Grizzlies delivered a statement performance fueled by sharp execution, relentless baserunning and a balanced lineup that saw every starter contribute.

The game was virtually decided from the jump when Butler had seven-runs, capitalizing on three walks, four hits and two Pratt defensive errors. Sophomore Claire Lopez sparked the onslaught with a lead-off single and then immediately set the tone by stealing second, third and home at the same time.

Freshman Kyler Demel delivered the biggest blow of the inning, a three-run homer to the left while sophomores Chloe Cardona and Kory Schoenfeld each added RBI hits. The Grizzlies would repeat the feat in the third inning, again plating seven runs, highlighted by extra-base hits from Forney, Cardona and Jobe.

Butler finished with 14 hits, all coming in just four innings at the plate and recorded RBIs from nine different players. Demel, Cardona and Schoenfeld each tallied three RBIs. Kylie Forney went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple, and Jenna Jobe reached base in all three of her plate appearances. The game also featured an impressive display of Butler's aggressive base running. The Grizzlies stole nine bases in total, with Lopez swiping five by herself.

Defensively, Butler was clean committing no errors and showing amazing communication on infield plays and outfield coverage. Cardona, a catcher also anchored the defense, throwing out a potential base-stealer and blocking several low pitches with runners on. Pratt (10–36, 6–24 KJCCC) managed two runs in the bottom of the first inning, briefly making it 7–2, but couldn’t muster any further offense against Butler’s overpowering pitching. The Beavers were held to just two hits and struck out eight times.

This was the final game of April. They have been named KJCC champions for the second consecutive season
