Community-Building events

Events on Campus strengthen the Butler community

There are many opportunities to build community as a student!

Weekly Discipleship Meetings

Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru) is a student ministry that offers on-campus Christian  discipleship meetings in the Welcome Center every Tuesday.

“Our desire is to pour into students and disciple them with the hope that they will disciple others,” said Lauren Busenitz, coordinator of Cru at Butler.

Cru invests in student’s lives with the Gospel, giving them solid advice for life on campus and inspiring them to become strong leaders.

“I’m really appreciating the guys who are there volunteering and serving because they help give me a lot of guidance while I’m here in college,” said current attendee Elijah Quiring.

Career and Transfer Opportunities

Practically applying skills gained in college can be challenging. Director of Career Services Aletra Chaney-Profit strives to provide resume-strengthening and career transfer opportunities for students.

“Our mission is to give students an opportunity, and hopefully an advantage,” Chaney-Profit said.

The Career Transfer Fair was Chaney-Profit’s goal in action. Tables representing different universities in Kansas and numerous jobs and internships were set up in the Athletics Building. Students looking to transfer were encouraged to ask questions while those looking for jobs could plug in with potential employers.

"Fun and Confusing"

Library events such as The Bridgerton Escape Room held in September serve as ways to put your critical thinking skills to use as a group. Students are placed in a “locked” room and given 30 minutes to find hidden clues and unlock the secret
to escape.

An escape-room participant named Jordan shares her experience.

“I liked to figure out the combinations to the lock boxes.”

“I just really like escape rooms and figuring out puzzles,” she said.

Crochet Community

Butler’s monthly Crochet Day is a welcoming place for all levels of student crocheters.

“I wanted to come so I could get a good and fun start at crocheting with other people. I also wanted to hang out with my friends,” a participant named Lilli said.

Another student, Kinsey, loved crocheting as a group and the community it created. She hopes more students attend these events.

“I would definitely recommend more future events to other people.”

“I had so much fun, and the atmosphere was really nice, and it was a positive environment,” she said.
