The Butler Grizzlies Women’s Basketball team hosted Northwest Kansas Technical College Saturday, Jan. 27 in what was anticipated to be a challenging matchup, but ultimately turned into a seemingly easy game for the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies exhibited fierceness, and their basketball IQ appeared unmatched throughout the game. They dominated the game, finishing with a lead of over 50 points, 107-57.
The match saw moments of intensity, with both teams striving to start on a strong note. The Grizzlies’ defense proved formidable, determined not to allow the Mavericks to gain offensive momentum. Offensive plays by the Grizzlies contributed to a widening gap on the scoreboard.
Despite the Mavericks’ efforts to thwart the Grizzlies’ control, players like Traysha Newsome and Torrai Logan showcased their skills and determination.
The first quarter concluded with the Grizzlies holding a significant lead at 34-8.
In the second quarter, the Grizzlies maintained their dominance on the court, executing flawless offensive plays. The stress was palpable for the Mavericks’ players, who seemed perplexed by the unfolding events.

The men’s team hosted the Northwest Kansas Technical College Mavericks Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Power plant for an enthralling showdown between the two teams. The Grizzlies, coming off a loss in their last game that had stopped their winning streak, were determined to get back to their winning ways, and finished the game with a narrow lead.
The game started with a strong performance from the Mavericks; Charles Fofanah opened the game with a 3-point jump shot that quickly received a response from Anthony Williams of the Grizzlies. Both teams were evenly matched, but the Mavericks started to pull away in the first few minutes. Fofanah posed the most significant challenge for the Grizzlies; his dribbling and playmaking abilities made it much harder for the Grizzlies to defend against him. However, the Butler team managed to make a comeback later in the game.
Charles McClenahan Jr. scored an impressive dunk for the Grizzlies that ignited the crowd. The Grizzlies displayed impressive passing abilities and a knack for finding wide-open players.
As the first half concluded, the Grizzlies held a slight lead with a score of 44-39.
The second half opened with both teams missing a couple of shots. Substitutions were made on both sides, offering a chance to gain an advantage. Most of the second half consisted of
numerous defensive rebounds from both teams and turnovers.
Both teams brought their A-game when it came to defense. Man-to-man coverage made it difficult to secure free open shots; most attempts were contested, making it harder for each team to score. Fouls were also a part of the game, with many players going to the free-throw line.
As the minutes dwindled, the Grizzlies seemed to gain an advantage and maintained their lead. The Mavericks tried to catch up, making the game very close, with players like Keyishon Miller and Taiden Conner making significant contributions.
