disappointing day for the Grizzlies

The Butler Grizzlies baseball team took on a big challenge Sunday, April 26 after losing their previous encounter, facing nationally ranked No. 5 Cowley County  at Tiger Ball Park. Though the Grizzlies came up short in a 13–3 loss, the lessons learned were more valuable than the score. The Grizzlies lost the first game on their home base 15-4 a couple of days before, Cowley dominated them in both games and this shows they are the superior team.

Butler struggled to get the offense going, finishing with just two hits on day one each from freshmen Kaleb Nye and Brady Todd. Despite limited contact, the team showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks and pushing across three runs in the sixth inning. Amarion Sailer brought in a run with a bases loaded walk, and freshman Jackson Ellison added an RBI with a groundout.

Cowley, meanwhile, showed why they’re one of the top teams in the country. The Tigers racked up 15 hits, including a home run by Drake Fittro and scored in seven different innings. Butler used eight pitchers in the game, trying to keep fresh arms on the mound. Starter Dayton Pelfrey went three innings, allowing two runs before turning things over to the bullpen.

On defense, Nye made several solid plays in right field, while Todd and redshirt freshman Amarion Sailer helped stabilize the outfield. The team turned one double play and showed flashes of good communication despite the tough conditions.

Butler now sits at 24–23 on the season. With just a few games left before the postseason, the Grizzlies know each outing is a chance to fine-tune and prepare. The Grizzlies' next opposition will be Thursday, May 1at the McDonalds stadium at 1 p.m. They have a chance to snap their losing streak and reestablish themselves with dominance.
