U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was created by Homeland Security in 2002 and 2003 following the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania.

According to Homeland Security, ICE is meant to protect the United States from cross border crime and from illegal immigration. Immigration enforcement is the largest area of work and responsibility for ICE.
Recently, ICE is embroiled in controversy and has been a main topic in mainstream media with criticism increasing mainly in the first and second administration of President Donald J. Trump.
In 2025, Trump devised “The One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act” and as a part of that act ICE has been the largest and most funded law enforcement agency in U.S history. The tactics, publicity campaigns and immoral enforcement actions have resulted in them being incredibly unpopular around the world.
On Friday, Jan. 9, Vice President JD Vance, in a press conference, talked about the killing of an American citizen named Renée Goode who lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He said that the ICE officer that killed her was a federal law enforcement officer engaging in a federal law enforcement action.
Vance continued with that saying it's a federal issue and that the officer is protected by absolute immunity, meaning that the officer is allowed to do anything they want to without any legal repercussions.
Vance later clarified that the officer was just doing his job.
I believe that when ICE was first created under President George W. Bush, the president’s chief concern was that illegal immigrants coming to America could potentially be terrorists.I don’t think Bush created ICE to be a weapon against legal citizens of the United States.
He was concerned about what occurred stemming from the 9/11 terrorist attack. Bush provided more of a shield because of the concerns Americans had following the attacks.
I don’t agree with the claim that immigrants are all terrorists. There is definitely a stereotype for immigrants because of the 9/11 attacks just like there are stereotypes about all races.
I also believe every U.S. citizen is an immigrant unless you are a Native American, so I don’t believe in deporting people from America or using disgusting, harmful actions just because they are from different countries. The current administration is using Bush's former idea as more of a threat and a weapon against illegal immigrants.
The administration is going full throttle on doing anything possible to people that don't agree with the administration with that being killings, assaults, insults, discrimination and so much more.
Anybody can be a criminal, but nobody should be stereotyped or discriminated against just because of their ethnic background, the color of their skin or the accent they may have.
Our current president is a convicted criminal. Just because you’re convicted of a crime does not mean you’re guilty, but also you can be convicted of a crime and never have done the crime you're being accused of.
Why is our president a convicted criminal but there are people saying that he has done nothing? But there are a number of Americans that have been convicted of a crime they did not commit, but society assumes they committed the criminal act.
Why are people picking and choosing on if someone is a criminal or not? But when it comes to our president that doesn’t abide to him?
Take George Stinney Jr., for example. Stinney, a 14-year old African American, was accused of sexually assaulting two white girls in the 1940s. Eighty years later, he was exonerated of those crimes, but Stinney received a death sentence. Stinney was executed in 1944 at the age of 14 – based on the color of his skin.
Stereotypes have dated back centuries. The current administration is focusing on race when it comes to ICE deportations. Just because you speak a different language or you are a person of color, you are presumed to be here illegally.
What (ICE) is doing to America is a crime, murder is a crime, assault is a crime, harassment is a crime. No one should have any type of immunity, even if they serve in the highest office.
It is morally and legally wrong, what ICE is doing to American citizens. Even what they’re doing to illegal immigrants is wrong. ICE does not deserve to have immunity for doing illegal crimes.
