Thanksgiving break is a period off from college for students in the United States to celebrate the holiday Thanksgiving, which is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.
The break is usually a three-to-five day break, giving students the opportunity to travel if they need to. Mainly it’s just a time to be around family and to rest from the fall school year and to reflect and enjoy company with your family without the worry of school. But for some, it can also be a gateway to help study for upcoming finals and a chance to catch up on missing work.
For workers, it’s a holiday: for time to take off, so they can spend time with their family, Again many people use that advantage to travel and see family.
During this break, it is to take a time away from work and school, but mainly it’s about a time to be thankful and to reflect and spend time with your loved ones.
For college students, Thanksgiving doesn’t really provide much of a break. It’s a time to reflect and to be with your loved ones, but it is also a gateway to where you might have to study for upcoming finals Students like me use Thanksgiving break to study and get missing work done.
This coming Thanksgiving break here at Butler Community College we have classes Monday and Tuesday. This is not necessary just because break for us starts on Wednesday, Nov. 25 and Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov. 27, so there isn't a lot of time to prepare for Thanksgiving, especially if you’re a student that lives far from Butler. For students, this may feel like a bit of a rush. The college should give students and employees the entire week off for Thanksgiving.
This break can give students time to reset and reflect, complete missing work and spend the time cooking with our family.
Also, Thanksgiving is such a short time for students, as it doesn’t give us enough time to decompress when returning to campus on Monday, Dec. 1. Normally when students return from a break, it’s like a reset from Thanksgiving break. Upon returning to campus on Monday, students will feel overwhelmed with Canvas notifications of upcoming assignments, so Butler, do away with the classes for the entire week instead.
