Tamara Daniel has been selected to become Butler's next president. She will officially be in office on Monday, June 23. Dr. Daniel comes to Butler with more than 25 years of leadership experience in the community college sector where, as a champion of student success, workforce development and institutional innovation, she has continuously pushed for improvement.
After the Board of Trustees approved her contract, Daniel released a statement thanking them for their trust. In her statement, circulated to the Butler community, she made her first public comments since being named Butler’s 21st president in March: “I am deeply thankful to the Board of Trustees for their trust. I am committed to honoring Butler’s proud legacy and working alongside our dedicated employees to become deeply embedded in this community. Together, we will continue to innovate, collaborate and keep students at the center of everything we do.”
At present, Daniel works as the provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at Arkansas State University-Mountain Home. She has occupied assorted leadership slots, from vice president of the college to full-time professor. Daniel's academic qualifications include a Ph.D. and an M.S. in mathematics from University of Mississippi and a B.A. in psychology. Daniel has devoted her career to broadening the reach of education, ensuring that the K-12 partners with whom the university works have access to improved pathways to college and working with our fundraising colleagues to reel in the kinds of external funding that can make a difference in students' lives.
She has been a leader in aligning the college's academic offerings with the needs of the local and regional workforce. Her interests also include the creation of campus environments that are diverse and inclusive.
