Butler Instrumental Concert Showcases Diverse Ensembles and Styles

Butler Community College’s instrumental concert, held on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26, was a success, thanks in part to strong community support and a large turnout of performers’ families.

The event featured performances by the Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Show Band, Brass Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble.  While the concert didn’t follow a specific theme, each group brought its own flair to the stage.

Highlights included the Jazz Ensemble’s lively mix of the Big Band classic “Sing, Sing, Sing” and a contemporary take on the “Sesame Street” theme.  The Show Band performed original pieces alongside the blues favorite “Soul Man”. The Concert Band showcased its full dynamic range with three modern works—RitualMirage and Deus Ex Machina—before closing with Gustav Holst’s iconic “Second Suite in F for Military Band”.

Brett Martinez, department chair of Instrumental Music, said he was proud of the students’ efforts and the concert’s turn out.

“It was inspiring to see so many parents and families in the audience,” Martinez said.  “Their support really motivates our students, and the energy this weekend reflected that.”
