Butler Community College (CC) has hired Marc Malone as its new executive vice president of Academic Affairs. His first day with the college will be Thursday, April 2.

Malone brings 14 years of higher education experience in Kansas to the role. He holds a doctor of education in higher education administration from the University of Kansas, a master of arts in English Literature from Iowa State University and a bachelor of arts in English Literature and French from Illinois College. He also participated in the Kansas Community College Leadership Institute and has served on the Kansas Council of Instructional Administrators since 2019.
Malone currently serves as vice president for Instructional Services and Chief Academic Officer at Garden City Community College, where he oversees instruction, workforce development and accreditation. Since 2019, he has led the development of new technical programs that have contributed to significant economic investment in southwest Kansas. He has also worked to strengthen the transfer student experience and secured major grants, including Title III STEM funding and Rural Business Development Grants, expanding educational resources and opportunities for students.
Malone began his career teaching English at Cloud County Community College. During his tenure there, he worked in leadership roles including department chair and associate vice president for Planning and Assessment.
“I am honored to join Butler Community College and will work to support and continue the tradition of excellence at Butler,” Malone said in a press release. “I’ve always been committed to fostering environments that support people, certainly our students, faculty and staff, but also our industry partners and the health and well-being of communities across Butler County, our region and our state.”
Butler President Tamara Daniel said Malone’s experience across the Kansas community college system will be a strong asset to the institution.
“Dr. Malone brings an exceptional record of leadership in academic affairs and a deep commitment to student success throughout the Kansas community college system,” Daniel said in a press release. “I am truly excited to welcome Dr. Malone to Butler, where his collaborative spirit and passion for building strong academic and workforce pathways will benefit our students, employees, and the entire Butler County community.”
Originally from Jacksonville, Illinois, Malone emphasized his belief in a collaborative, community-centered approach to education.
“Together, we will continue to build programs and pathways that support quality of life through quality education,” he said in a press release.
