Old School Masks & New School Art

The El Dorado campus will be alive with laughter in the theater and art in the E. B. White Gallery Thursday, April 16th.

Starting at 5 p.m., the E.B. White Gallery, located in the 700 building, will host the annual Spring Student Exhibition. Visiting Artist and Professor Michael McCaffery will judge this year’s art, and he will be on site to announce selected pieces and award winners.

Student choice awards entries can be seen in the main hallway of the art department, located in the 300 building.

At 7 p.m. the theater is performing William Shakespeare’s humorous play, “A Comedy of Errors,” where two sets of twins who never knew one another get mixed up for each other and everyone tries to figure out who's behind the mask!

In collaboration with the theater department, Fine Arts students Sydney Cole and Fay Belair crafted unique masks for each character. Using the traditional Italian Commedia dell’Arte style of Shakespeare’s time, lending the visual effect that the play was first imagined through archetypal imagery.

After Thursday, there will be three more opportunities to see those masked characters on stage: Friday, April 17 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 18 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Box Office.
