Since the 2024-2025 school year at Butler is coming to an end, this will be my final issue of The Lantern, although I will continue working for the newspaper this summer. These past two years have been filled with many laughs, funny stories and hard work. This year as the editor-in-chief has been one to remember. I have learned so much about Butler CC and the people around me. I was able to learn and grow in this role and the hard work was worth it and paid off.
When athletes are sidelined by injury, the physical pain often masks a deeper, more invisible wound such as the impact on mental health. For many student-athletes, injury means not only a break from competition but a battle against isolation, fear and doubt.
Almost every student brings a phone to class these days. Some teachers want to ban them completely, saying phones are a big distraction. And yes, sometimes they are. But before we say, “no phones allowed,” we should think twice. Phones aren’t just for texting; they can also be useful tools for learning.
At the border of the final exams: What advice can we follow?
For Butler CC stand-out distance runner (pink jersey and black tights in the above image), Elizabeth Hernandez, track and field has been a decade-long journey that began by watching her parents lace up their shoes and run. Growing up in Tlaxcala, Mexico, Hernandez found her own passion for the sport, one that continues to drive her today as a Grizzly sophomore.
Saint Lucia has always been synonymous with a vibrant culture, stunning landscapes and the deep sense of pride that exists in the hearts of its people. Monster's latest song, "Saint Lucia We Love," is a moving ode to everything that is wonderful about this island jewel. By blending catchy rhythms with meaningful lyrics, Monster has crafted an anthem that speaks volumes to all who call Saint Lucia home.
As Butler CC students prepare for finals, some have plans for graduation. This means they transfer to a four-year university next, stay another year or even decide they are done. Whatever it is, students have some time to figure it out. Students begin to pick up their cap and gowns and prepare for graduation. Graduation ceremony will take place on Friday, May 16 at 7 p.m. at the B.G. Products Veterans Stadium.
A range of new films appears in the market every year. The Chosen: Last Supper represents an exciting new movie production that launched on March 28. The film shows Jesus making his way through the holy city in order to stop temple corruption. The film covers episodes 1 and 2 which belong to Season 5 of "The Chosen" television series. Written screenings and booked theater seats for this movie exist through Fandango and the official website. In the United States and Canada the theatrical premiere of The Chosen: Last Supper (Season 5) started on Wednesday, March 27. The Chosen's first installment released March 27 with episodes 1–2 following this initial release (Thursday, April 3 saw the delivery of Episodes 3-5) and finally episodes 6-8 debuted on Thursday, April 10 marking the end of the season. Development and Season 1 Production: Started around 2018. Season 4 began its run in early 2024 as the production stage preceding the depiction of the Last Supper. Therefore, it required approximately six years until the portrayal of the Last Supper within the series.
Butler Community College’s instrumental concert, held on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26, was a success, thanks in part to strong community support and a large turnout of performers’ families.
The Minecraft movie was released on April 4, Friday. The film is based on a video game released in 2011, in which creators can use their imagination to build whatever they choose.
