Since the 2024-2025 school year at Butler is coming to an end, this will be my final issue of The Lantern, although I will continue working for the newspaper this summer. These past two years have been filled with many laughs, funny stories and hard work. This year as the editor-in-chief has been one to remember. I have learned so much about Butler CC and the people around me. I was able to learn and grow in this role and the hard work was worth it and paid off.

As Butler CC students prepare for finals, some have plans for graduation. This means they transfer to a four-year university next, stay another year or even decide they are done. Whatever it is, students have some time to figure it out. Students begin to pick up their cap and gowns and prepare for graduation. Graduation ceremony will take place on Friday, May 16 at 7 p.m. at the B.G. Products Veterans Stadium.

A range of new films appears in the market every year. The Chosen: Last Supper represents an exciting new movie production that launched on March 28. The Chosen's first installment released March 27 with episodes 1–2 following this initial release (Thursday, April 3 saw the delivery of Episodes 3-5) and finally episodes 6-8 debuted on Thursday, April 10 marking the end of the season. Development and Season 1 Production: Started around 2018. Season 4 began its run in early 2024 as the production stage preceding the depiction of the Last Supper. Therefore, it required approximately six years until the portrayal of the Last Supper within the series.

Opinion: impact of athletics on campus life/college

Opinion: impact of athletics on campus life/college

At many colleges, college athletes in Division I programs create the strongest beats in campus life. Throughout history college sports have led students to show greater school pride and bond with each other. Student support during football homecomings and both team success and failure build deep ties among students that make up the heart of the college community. Throughout both highschool and college sports have played a big part in inviting students, families and the community to bond and join together.

Student workers deserve fair and better pay

Student workers deserve fair and better pay

Students balancing college classes with work make a minimum pay of $9 per hour at Butler CC, which does not match their job value or covers daily expenses. University task-based workloads give student staff members priority roles to help keep campus operations stable. Despite their valuable work, student employees receive among the lowest salaries on campus.

Reset during spring break

Reset during spring break

Spring break is an ideal time to visit and travel to different places as there are many activities and eventful things can be enjoyed. Many take spring break trips, or even just relax and unwind on this week-long break. As Butler CC students prepare for spring break, they are finishing up taking tests, maybe even finals, finishing assignments and more. This is the spring break right before graduation for many at a community college or university even. Travel plans vary from going to somewhere tropical and hot like the beach in Florida or even South Padre Island Texas, which is a very popular spring break destination.

Butler responds to DEI order

Butler responds to DEI order

Recently, Donald Trump’s administration warned of funding cuts to universities over diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). On Monday, Feb. 17, the Department of Education (DOE) issued a Dear Colleague letter to universities and colleges explaining that they had 14 days to comply with the president’s order. During this timeframe, universities and colleges could no longer use race as it relates to decisions concerning admissions, employment and scholarships.

Opinion: Trump’s executive order is not the immigration reform we need

Opinion: Trump’s executive order is not the immigration reform we need

Among one of President Donald Trump first acts, he signed an executive order shutting down the U.S. southern border to prevent immigrants from coming over illegally. Weeks later, Trump said that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) could go into schools, churches and hospitals, which were once safe sites. Trump has even called immigrants “dangerous aliens.” Unfortunately, some families have been separated and torn apart; as a result, this country continues to be more divided than ever.
